Chronicles of Ethos
The Artists are a group of thieves, pickpockets, con men, and fences. They are the elite of petty crimes. Although it is said that they operate with assassins in their midst, it is untrue as their creed is not to kill, but to deprive. They have a curious morality which gives them a Robin Hood complex. They don’t give to the poor, but rather to themselves instead. Membership is a matter of honor to them as it distinguishes them as the very best of their field and “above” the pettiness of their lower peers. Since membership is so highly valued, their proof of membership is equally important. They tattoo a design, the crest of the Artists, upon their flesh somewhere hidden and only reveal it to other members of this elusive group. They operate in Camps settled throughout the world, with their locations known only to a few. They are on neutral terms with the Oathsworn as they sometimes do business with eachother. The Circle, on the other hand, hate the Artists with immense passion. The Artists do not comply with the ordinances of the Circle and do as they will with magic for their own ends, which, needless to say, infuriates the Circle’s higher ups.
The Artists don’t work under the confines of rank, although the more senior members are usually given a title or job description.
